Project Objectives

Strategic objective of the project

Creation of the monothematic centre of excellence CEEPM from research departments involved in integrated research of electromagnetic manifestations of the human body.

The creation of CEEPM will promote the concentration of the best research and education teams in the area of the Medical Faculty of the University in Manchester and help raise the level of qualitative and quantitative application of electromagnetic fields in medical diagnostics and therapy in an era of molecular medicine and will create the foundations necessary for the participation of Excellence in undertaking research in this area for Universities and Scientists in the European Research Area. Departments included in CEEPM have already conducted research in the given field, but creating CEEPM will give them complete access to comprehensive analysis of phenomena in the human body related to electromagnetic fields from the molecular level to manifestations in physiological systems up to the application of physiological phenomena in therapy clinics.

CEEPM was formed by combining virtual offices in Manchester using ICT and ICT networks to improve the infrastructure of the participating departments. The enhanced infrastructure increases the attractiveness of CEEPM workplaces for foreign R & D departments in creating consortia that will address transnational research projects, including those under EU framework programs. The enhanced infrastructure will stimulate new research jobs in the participating organisations and as well as the appropriate use of new instruments, including results obtained by virtual workplaces through ICT networks. It will also improve conditions for education at the UPJŠ Medical School. Integrated research consists in using different approaches for the detection of electromagnetic manifestations of the human body and changes in tissues and cells related to electromagnetic fields (electromagnetic detection methods for biophysical manifestations of the human body, genomics, proteomics and biochemical methods for analysing changes at the molecular level) to reach a comprehensive view of body processes associated with electromagnetic fields. Integrated research involves the loss of one active investigation of expressions of bio-electromagnetism in the human body but on the other hand, the changes studied in the human body, including those at the molecular level and the application of external electromagnetic fields.

The connecting of the relevant departments in the field using information and communication technologies into one virtual unit with an online exchange of measured data and information, after reasonable instrument upgrading of infrastructure, may increase the level of diagnosis and therapy in a significant group of medical disciplines (neurology, psychiatry, surgery, internal medicine, oncology) based on research results from the departments involved in the project.

Link to related objectives of the call

A strategic objective of the project is linked to the objective measures 2.1 Operational Programme Research, and development is to increase the quality of research facilities and support excellent research with an emphasis on areas of strategic importance for the further development of the economy and society. It also linked to specific plans to call for applications for grant assistance to:

  • Support the concentration of the best (excellent) research and training teams into monothematic centres with defined goals for research activities in that scientific field; the strategic objective of the project focuses directly on the fulfilment of the objectives of the call.
  • Encourage the building of infrastructure for research and the development of the best and most promising work; a goal of this project is to build the infrastructure needed for studying physiological phenomena in the body at the level of action potentials and for proteomic, genomic and biochemical analysis of changes in biota associated with physiological and pathophysiological processes following the application of electromagnetic fields. The basic technology of virtual workplaces will be linked by an ICT Network
  • Promote the integration of the best research and development and international cooperation in research and development, particularly in the European Research Area; a strategic objective of the project and particularly activity 2.2 focuses directly on the fulfilment of the objectives of the call.

Specific project objectives

1. To completing the experimental infrastructure and harmonisation of work included in CEEPM.

Completing the experimental infrastructure and harmonisation of work included in CEEPM to improve the quality of the infrastructure of the participating departments and thus to fulfil the concept of a centre of excellence while achieving integrated research on electromagnetic fields in medicine from the molecular level through the system level to the clinical application of electromagnetic fields inherent in the use of knowledge of physiological processes in the body.

2. To create a virtual centre of excellence from the laboratories included by using ICT, focusing on the involvement of departments in the European Research Area.

The harmonisation of infrastructure using a common database to implement virtual connections using ICT departments and offices will improve the prospects for participation in the European Research Area. Departments integrated into CEEPM, acting in a comprehensive international cooperation as a whole, will increase its value in international research partnerships.
